Video stalker faces more charges

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office

A Reno man who spent six months in Douglas County Jail for video stalking is in custody in Washoe County on similar charges.

Rodney Milton Skan, 60, was taken into custody on Thursday by Washoe County School District Police investigators on four counts of gross misdemeanor stalking.

Skan is accused of inappropriately videotaping four Washoe County students during school events. Two of the students have since graduated and two others are still in school.

The tapes turned up during Douglas County’s investigation into Skan’s activities after he was arrested at a Douglas track meet May 3, 2014. Someone at the meet noticed he was taping an athlete when she wasn’t competing.

A school administrator and deputy watched Skan, and then followed him into the parking lot where he was detained.

The investigation turned up 400 videos of more than three-dozen different girls taken at sporting events across Northern Nevada over the past 18 years.

Skan was released from Douglas County jail in September 2014.

School police worked with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office in investigating the case.
