Robber raids South Lake KFC through unlocked door
A robber took advantage of an unlocked back door at the South Lake Tahoe Kentucky Fried Chicken to rob the restaurant late Monday night.
At about 11:30 p.m. Monday, South Lake Tahoe Police officers responded to the KFC at 3668 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in response to an armed robbery which had just occurred.
The robber had already fled when officers arrived. The restaurant had been closed for business, but several employees were still inside working at the time of the robbery.
The robber entered through the unlocked back door of the business and displayed a handgun, began yelling orders at the employees and threatening to shoot them if they did not immediately comply.
He ordered one of the employees to surrender the money to him. After collecting an undisclosed amount of money the robber immediately left through the same door through which he had entered, to the rear of the business. His method of escape is not known from this point. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The robber took care to conceal his identity, fully covering his face and hands, which made it impossible for the employees to identify his race. He was described as a man of uncertain race about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, and about 130 pounds. Video is not yet available from the restaurant or from the general shopping center where it is located at the southeast corner of Lake Tahoe and Ski Run Boulevards.
Detectives will be contacting other area law enforcement agencies to identify any similar cases which may assist in this investigation. Anyone who was a witness is encouraged to contact the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530-542-6100 or Lake Tahoe Secret Witness at 530-541-6800.
