A Gardnerville man with a prior criminal record was arrested Wednesday for theft.

Erik J. Edwards, 22, is charged with allegedly stealing four Galaxy S7 smartphones, one Google Pixel smartphone and $1,240 in cash from the Verizon store in Gardnerville where he worked. The five smartphones are estimated to be worth more than $3,500.

In December Edwards was arrested for cashing forged checks worth $220. At the time of his arrest he told deputies he needed the money to support a heroin habit. He had three warrants out for failing to appear on misdemeanor charges.

■ A Gardnerville woman was arrested Thursday on multiple felony drug charges.

Melissa A. White, 38, was arrested on suspicion of selling several ounces of methamphetamine to Douglas County Sheriff's deputies during four separate January transactions. A methamphetamine pipe with residue was found on White at the time of her arrest.
