Minden man arrested in pedestrian death
Carson City, Nev. — A Minden man, who was involved in a fatal Veterans Day motorcycle collision in 2014, has been arrested in Carson City.
Michael Trute, 56, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony driving under the influence with substantial bodily harm warrant, according to a story appearing in the Nevada Appeal. Trute’s bail was set at $10,000.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when Trute, who was southbound on Stewart Street near Telegraph, struck Michael Shields, 66, of Carson City, while he was crossing the street.
Trute was thrown from the motorcycle, and Shields was killed in the crash. Trute was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, according to Trooper Dave Gibson of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Gibson said the crosswalk was illuminated. The speed limit on Stewart is 35 mph. There is no traffic signal at the intersection.
