Man faces life sentence in sexual assault on child
A Gardnerville man faces life in prison after he admitted Tuesday to having sex with an 11-year-old girl.
Miguel Briones Gutierrez, 34, appeared in Douglas County District Court where he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault on a child under the age of 16.
Under Nevada law he faces up to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Through an interpreter, Gutierrez told visiting Judge Robert Estes that he had sex with the girl between December 2012 and May 2014.
“I had a relationship with a minor,” he said. “I completely understand it was wrong.”
Gutierrez signed a plea agreement on Dec. 3 after waiving his preliminary hearing in East Fork Justice Court.
His sentencing is set for Feb. 10.
Gutierrez has been in custody since he was arrested on Sept. 26.
