Broken arm leads to one arrest
A Gardnerville Ranchos man was arrested after allegedly breaking a woman’s arm.
Mariano Mesa was arrested around 2 a.m. Thursday.
When deputies arrived at the Long Valley home, a woman was outside with a broken arm.
When deputies questioned her about her injuries she said Mesa had done it.
Mesa told deputies he had been sleeping when he heard the woman yelling, screaming and slamming doors in the house.
He said when he came out of his room the woman came at him and he defended himself.
Mesa admitted to pushing the woman before going into the bathroom.
When he came out he saw her cradling her arm with a guitar case at her feet.
Mesa told deputies he thought she may have tripped over the case after he pushed her.
The woman was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Mesa was charged with battery causing substantial bodily harm. He is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. Attorney Kris Brown was appointed to represent him on Monday.
■ A man is denying he tried to break a window of the Jacks Valley Target with a rock.
Carson City resident Michael Shawn Daggett, 21, appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Monday where he entered a not guilty plea to destruction of property and burglary.
Daggett was taken into custody early Sunday morning after a Douglas County deputies responded to an alarm at the store.
The deputy reported finding Daggett lying down behind the newspaper racks in front of the empty Staples at around 1:30 a.m.
Daggett is scheduled to appear today with attorney Jamie Henry.
■ A Gardnerville Ranchos woman was arrested on a warrant accusing her of taking prescription narcotics from another person’s home.
Maureen Fran Ross, 49, was arrested Sunday afternoon on a warrant that was issued on May 18. The burglary occurred May 4 from a home on Selkirk Circle.
Ross admitted taking prescription medication from five acquaintances in 2011 and was given a deferred sentence, which allowed her to avoid a felony if she successfully completed Western Regional Drug Court.
■ A Gardnerville man is facing a burglary charge after he allegedly tried to roll $300 worth of merchandise out of the Walmart.
Greggory Dolgin, 53, is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court today after his July 13 arrest.
■ An Olua Street resident reported vandalism Sunday.
The resident called deputies after coming out of their home Sunday morning to find one of their outside lights knocked off the pole and shattered on the driveway.
The other three lights on the pole were untouched. The damaged lights was struck with something hard enough to knock it off the pole, shattering the glass and bending the metal housing.
No vehicles were seen in the area.
