CO2 cars will be made in WNCC class for kids

Staff reports

Kids can experience the thrill of racing in the model car Dragster 500 Racing class offered by Western Nevada Community College Douglas. This non-credit class meets Thursdays, Oct. 26 to Nov. 30, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the technology lab at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School. There will be no class on Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day. Students in grades 4 to 8 will learn how to design, build, and race a CO2 powered dragster. Woodworking skills and basic engineering principles will be taught. Students will test the aerodynamics of their designs in a wind tunnel and then face off with each other in a series of races. Parents are invited to watch the Dragster 500 Races on Nov. 30.

The class costs $45, which includes all materials to build and race a model car. Parents need to pre-register their student by Friday, Oct. 20 at WNCC Douglas, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden. This class is being offered through the WNCC Douglas Community Services Division. For more information call 265-9261.
