Co-parenting for divorced parents offered

Staff reports

Co-parenting after a divorce may be one of the biggest challenges facing today’s families. With the divorce rate in the United States rising above 50 percent in recent years, the question, “What is best for the children?” has become somewhat of a dichotomy when used in the same context as the word “divorce.”

As challenging as these circumstances may be for a family, they do not have to be monumental. Family Support Council is offering a workshop for parents who are facing this responsibility. The workshop will deal with topics such as stages of loss and grief, how to deal with anger, communicating with the other parent, games adults and children play and custody issues.

It is designed to help parents become more aware of invaluable ways in which they can make an already difficult situation less devastating. The workshop will be held two days at Family Support Council on Wednesday, Jan. 20, and Thursday, Jan. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

There will be free child care on the premises and a $5 cost for materials. For more information or to register, stop by the office at 1255 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville or call 782-8692. The workshop is sponsored by Title XX and Nevada Children’s Trust.
