On Saturday, May 30, the Kiwanis Club will present the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus at Lampe Park. Performances are at 2 and 4 p.m.

The circus is now in its 14th season and has been featured on the National Geographic Explorer Series and Entertainment Tonight.

The public is invited to come and watch the raising of the tent using “elephant power.” Also, a one-hour free presentation on endangered species and a tour of the circus will be given at 10 a.m. on week days.

Advanced tickets are available at Scolari’s and cost $5 for children 2-12 and $7 for adults. Tickets bought the day of the show at the gate will cost $6 for children and $8 for adults.

The 17th annual Pizen Switch Roundup will be held at the Walker River Resort in Smith Valley on Sunday, June 28.

The Roundup is a community picnic that everyone is welcome to attend. The coffee pot will be plugged in at 9 a.m. You can bring your own picnic lunch or join in the potluck at 1 p.m. Gene Castle and his musical group from Yerington will provide entertainment.

The honoree for this year’s Roundup is Wilson McGowan. McGowan, a Yerington native, will soon be celebrating his 90th birthday. He was elected to the legislature while living in Lovelock,, and after a move to Carson City in 1966, was elected as State Controller. The McGowan family has always been strong supporters of this event.

This is a day for everyone to relax and enjoy life, for old-timers to renew friendships and newcomers to meet and spend a day with the most congenial group of friendly people, said Katie Buchanan, organizer.

For participants wanting to arrive early or stay late, cabins and RV sites with full hook-ups are available. For reservations, call (702) 465-2573 or (800) 446-2573.

For more information, contact Buchanan at 588-5372 or Angie Fulstone, 463-4232.
