The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its fifth annual clothing drive to help families in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities get ready for school.
The event is open to the public 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada.
David Haws, President of the church's local organization, says some families may struggle to provide needed clothing as the new school year approaches. "This is our fifth annual clothing drive to help families obtain clothing and reduce the stress parents face in getting their children ready for the new school year," said Haws.
Event organizers are also asking for clothing donations from the community. Drop off new or clean and gently used clothing on 4-8 p.m. today at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.
Kelli Asp, President of the church's local women's organization, said she schedules the annual event in August to help families get ready for the new school year. "We invite the whole family to come out. We will have a selection of clothing ranging from infant to adult," said Asp. She emphasized that all items are provided free of charge.
