Christ Presbyterian day care to open in July

Staff reports

The Christ Presbyterian Church in Minden announced the selection of Kristen Fowler, a three-year resident of the Carson Valley, as the director of the new child care center.

Fowler has been working with members of the church to develop the center.

Fowler received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in teaching reading from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

She taught elementary school in Michigan for six years and has worked in other child care settings. She has also been a church organist, preschool choir director, Girl Scout camp counselor, a private tutor and a human services representative at Bently Nevada Corp.

All involved in the child care project are hoping to create a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for any child in the community, a church spokesperson said.

With construction progressing on schedule, the center is due to open July 20.

Applications for enrollment in the center are currently being accepted for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years.

The center’s building, an 8,700-square-foot facility located at 1701 Lucerne Street, Minden, will be used for both the church and the child care center. It also houses administrative offices, a worship area, a library and classrooms that will be used for children and the congregation.

The building will be available to other groups in the evenings.
