China Spring Camp to have garden

Staff reports

Sunrise Sustainable Resources Group donated $280 to the China Springs Youth Camp to purchase seeds and soil amendments for an organic garden.

Sunrise member Sally Dorf of Gardnerville has worked since August 1997 to establish a vegetable garden at the camp, which will supply food for the kitchen as well as assist the boys in learning sustainable gardening skills.

Large cold frames have been constructed in the 75-foot by 150-foot garden. A greenhouse is necessary to extend the growing season, and Sunrise members will start raising money and supplies for that project this summer.

Anyone wishing to help with the greenhouse should contact Constance Alexander at 267-2850. Donations should be made to China Springs Youth Camp with the notation, “For the Greenhouse Project.”
