Child’s brain topic of presentation

Staff reports

The parenting program at Family Support Council will be doing a special presentation on “The Child’s Brain” at the Women’s Support Group, Monday, June 19, 7-8:30 p.m. at the Family Support Council office, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Free child care will be provided.

Specifically, this presentation conveys how domestic violence in the home affects a child’s brain. Thanks to new technologies, including powerful brain scans, scientists are now able to form a much clearer picture of the brain’s inner workings. These technologies have allowed new insights into early development, says Lois Pruneau of the Family Support Council. “Many people, not just mom, believe that children living in violent homes do not suffer…as long as they are not hurt themselves,” she said. “New brain research in the last five consequences in the area of brain development.”

The special presentation will offer information and facts that will help all those who attend understand the impact of violence on a child’s developing brain.

Interested participants should make reservations by June 16, by calling the Family Support Council at 782-8692.
