Celebrate our military on Veterans Day this weekend

This weekend we have the opportunity to thank our military, past and present, for all they have done and still do for our country.

Saturday is the Marine Corps birthday, and as the wife of a Marine, I know how much this day means to them.

Sunday is Veterans Day, with Monday a federal holiday. Please thank any military person you know for all their efforts on our behalf.

Senior Center news

The next two Fridays, Nov. 9 and 16, will feature fun bingo games at the senior center after the lunch hour. The first of these events was held last month and enjoyed by all who played. It costs nothing to play, and you can win a gift certificate for a free lunch at the center. Come on down and have some fun with us.

Local events

On Sunday, Nov. 11 the Antelope Valley Women’s Club will have their annual bazaar at the Community Center with great handmade items to buy, either for yourself or as a holiday gift. The bazaar will open at noon, and a roast beef or turkey dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. If you want more information, call 495-2918 or 495-2902.

Across the street that day, at the senior center, the Antelope Valley Artists will have their show and sale. These people are so very talented, you will want to see their artwork.

Saturday, Dec. 1, the Coleville High School Boosters will have their 8th annual fundraiser dinner at the Community Center.

They will be serving a delicious dinner of Mexican food, and will have a raffle, silent auction, and a dessert auction as well.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12 years old. Children under 5 will be free.

Take advantage of these events supporting our valley, and enjoy not having to cook dinner either night.

This and that

Coleville High’s football team had a great year, but didn’t get to be in the playoffs, due to a three-way tie and the method for tiebreaking.

The girls’ volleyball team played well and won one round of the playoffs, but didn’t make the finals. Good going anyway, girls.
