CCMES food drive has students excited about helping people
Students in two classes from C. C. Meneley Elementary School will have the opportunity to drop off their food items during the Drive-By Food Drive at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.
The CCMES food drive, which began Nov. 22 and will continue through Dec. 13, is being sponsored by the student council.
“It’s important that we help people that need food for the holidays,” said student council President Linda Morgan. “We do a food drive every year at Meneley. I think the kids who bring in the items might feel proud that they helped someone.”
Linda said the competition encourages students to bring in more food.
Besides, she said, “It’s fun to have the competition because two classes get to deliver the food to the Carson Valley Inn.”
The Drive-By Food Drive will take place Dec. 15, 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Residents will be dropping off their non-perishable food items at an area between the Carson Valley Inn and the RV entrance in Minden. The second annual event is sponsored by KTVN Channel 2 News and CVI.
Advisor to the student council, CCMES counselor Mary Garcia, said, “It’s wonderful to see the Meneley student body experience the joy of giving during this holiday season. Last year, we collected over 1,000 donated items for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. We hope to meet or exceed that number this year.”
Garcia said the student council representatives did a good job promoting the event and spreading enthusiasm among the student body for the community service project.
