CattleWomen to hold Spring Membership Mixer
The Western Nevada CattleWomen will hold the fourth annual Spring Membership Mixer Thursday, April 6, from 6 to 9 pm., featuring local comedienne Kat Simmons in the banquet facilities of the Two Guys from italy restaurant in Minden.
Beyond being a social opportunity for the current members, the mixer is intended to generate interest in the community of the Western Nevada CattleWomen. One needs no agricultural background or affiliation to become a new member, said President Annalyn Settelmeyer.
The Western Nevada CattleWomen, established in 1958, is one of Nevada’s oldest women’s organizations. Western Nevada CattleWomen works to promote the betterment of the beef industry and acts as a clearing house of information for the beef industry. The membership represents the best in volunteerism for the beef industry.
Members are active in beef promotion, education and in state and federal legislation. Members serve as ambassadors of the cattle industry and relay the benefits of beef. Members work to educate consumers of the nutritional value of beef. They also work to maintain and build the demand for beef products that satisfy consumer needs and promote the cattle industry.
Annually, the Western Nevada CattleWomen award scholarships to area high school students pursuing an education in an agricultural-related curriculum. Members raise money for these scholarships from various fund-raising events that are held to encourage new members or those who want to learn more about the organization. They need no agricultural background or affiliation to become a member.
