Candy Dance antique sale coming Sept. 26, 27
The Genoa Candy Dance Antique Show and Sale will again take place at the south end of Genoa at the Dake Hawkins House at 2242 South Main Street in Genoa. This is the second year that an antique show and sale has been held in conjunction with the Genoa Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire, set this year for Sept. 26 and 27. There will be plenty of free parking and shuttle service to and from downtown.
The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and will feature a wide variety of antiques and collectibles from several Nevada and California dealers. Hot dogs, homemade lemonade, old-fashioned root beer floats and desserts will be available.
Continuous entertainment, all free of charge, will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will feature performers such as “Revilla,” a solo New Age artist, who will weave together a tapestry of Renaissance and ancient melodies.
Kelbie Fulkerson will perform “The Living Doll,” one of her Knott’s Berry Farm characters for children and adults. She was a featured performer at Knott’s Berry Farm for over 15 years. She has appeared on the Merv Griffin Show, Small Wonder, Starsky and Hutch and many television specials.
Thomas Goodlunas and Marie Louis will offer violin and keyboard instrumentals which encompass a variety of melodic genres, and in the late afternoon, two local rock bands will play classic rock and hard rock.
The Genoa Candy Dance began as a small fund-raising dinner, dance and candy sale to support needed town improvements for Genoa, the historic little town at the base of the majestic Sierras. It was the idea of Lillian Virgin Finnegan and began in 1919 to raise funds to provide electric street lights.
The Candy Dance has continued to raise funds for other needed town improvements and has been held every year except for one year during World War II and another year in the 1960s.
In the 1970s, the Candy Dance was expanded to include a two-day arts and crafts fair. The Antique Show and Sale was added last year, and continuous entertainment will be part of the event this year.
