Visitor’s Authority seeking savvy horsewoman
The Carson Valley Visitors Authority has an immediate job opening for a “storyteller on horseback.”
The travel and tourism organization is looking for a horse savvy woman to become the “Carson Valley Rider,” and promote the region’s “Rugged. Relaxed. Reachable.” brand to visitors and residents.
Tourism is Douglas County’s No. 1 industry. With more than 850 hotel rooms, three casinos, 100 restaurants, 30 outdoor outfitters, numerous outdoor recreational activities, 325 RV hookups and more than 20,000 square feet of conference space, the CVVA wants to spread the news in a memorable way to maximize tourism and attention for the region.
In a survey conducted in 2011, key stakeholders in the region stated the single greatest challenge facing Carson Valley tourism was “getting the word out that there is something for everybody.”
“This is great opportunity for us to educate people about what we have to offer here in Carson Valley in a fun and entertaining way,” said A.J. Frels, Carson Valley Visitors Authority executive director.
In addition to a comprehensive social media and public relations campaign, national ads will be placed on Monster.com, CareerBuilder, Craigslist and PersonnelOne.com. PersonnelOne, a national staffing and recruiting firm with offices in Reno and Carson City, is involved in the effort to secure the rider.
“The Storyteller on Horseback is obviously a unique employment opportunity and we’re ready to charge from the gate to help find the right person to represent authentic Nevada,” said Brad Stewart, Branch Manager for PersonnelOne. “Since we’re used to ‘saddling up’ candidates in business, we’re comfortable finding the perfect rider for this horse.”
Once selected, the winning candidate will playfully demonstrate her adventures at the region’s various attractions and sample its many activities through a series of videos and event appearances which will be available on social media. A video want ad and full job description with salary and benefits will be listed at visitcarsonvalley.org.
