Honorees for Community Recognition Awards chosen
The individuals and organizations to be recognized at this year’s Community Recognition Awards Gala on Nov. 3 have been selected.
Chosen from the nominations submitted by the public, this year’s group is
Valley Eyecare & Eyewear as Business of the Year: Valley Eyecare & Eyewear was chosen for their commitment to their patients and to helping segments of the community from the youngest to the most mature.
Teresa Duffy of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as Employee of the Year: Deputy Duffy was chosen for her work within the Department with the many facets of the Youth Service Programs.
Carson Valley Lions Club as Service Club of the Year: The Carson Valley Lions Club was selected for its tireless work in fundraising and supporting numerous causes with the dollars raised.
CASA of Douglas County as Non-Profit Organization of the Year: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Douglas County made the list for its work in being a voice for children in court.
Gary Dove of Kiwanis, Aktion Club and Project Santa Claus as Volunteer of the Year: Dove is best known for his work with Project Santa Claus, but also devotes his energy to the Parks & Recreation Commission, the County Community Services Foundation and the Aviation Roundup.
Nadia (Shahin) Sandoval as Citizen of the Year: Sandoval was the initiator and driver of the effort to bring the Moving Vietnam Wall to the Valley, providing an unforgettable experience to Valley Veterans and residents.
All will be honored at the CRA Gala at the Carson Valley Inn on Nov. 3, along with the special recognition of retiring Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins and retiring Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini.

The evening includes dinner, entertainment, a silent auction and the awards.
