Hay crop wrapping up
Coming off the best hay crop he’s ever had, Jacks Valley rancher and casino owner John Ascuaga said that’s pretty much the end of the growing season for most of the Valley.
A second year of drought has dried up most of the irrigation water available from the Carson River, and supplemental water rights will only irrigate so much land.
A few Carson Valley ranches are still reaping their hay crop, including Bently property north of Minden.
According to the monthly drought report, the East Fork of the Carson River through Gardnerville is at 88 cubic feet per second, which is 30 percent of average. The West Fork at Woodfords is at 29 percent.
