Douglas jobless rate lowest in seven years
Unemployment in Douglas County dropped to 6.7 percent in June, its lowest level since June 2008, at the beginning of the Great Recession.
According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the number of employed workers in the county during June was 21,109, up from 20,917 in May.
The number of jobless in the county went up 10 workers to 1,525. Unemployment figures do not include those who’ve stopped looking for work or whose benefits have expired.
Douglas County unemployment peaked in 2010 at 15.1 percent. That was when Douglas had the third highest unemployment in the state. In June, the Douglas jobless rate was the ninth highest among Nevada’s 17 counties.
