Balls will roll and pins will fly as Wink’s Silver Strike opens its doors on April 1.

Previously known as Silver Strike, the bowling alley that has been closed for a year and a half will be reopened with only minor changes.

“The enthusiasm we have gotten from everyone we’ve talked to has been great,” Director of promotions John Fantini said. “We’ve gotten a really positive response from everything. We’re looking forward to getting going.”

Although the Wink’s Silver Strike will not be fully operational due to missing liquor and gaming licenses, CEO Jim Winklepleck wants to get the lanes open to the public and reintroduce the Gardnerville Ranchos attraction.

“We both grew up in bowling centers. It’s something we’ve been doing all our lives,” Fantini said. “We didn’t want to make a major change so we kept the Silver Strike and just added Wink’s. We’re not making many changes inside either.”

Since obtaining the building, focuses have been on getting the machinery back up and running and doing a major cleaning of the floors and kitchen.

“We’ve painted the interior so there are new colors. We’ve had to order $30,000 worth of parts because not everything was running when we walked in,” Fantini said. “Step by step we’re going to put the whole package together.”

Silver Strike Lanes closed Oct. 1, 2013, after more than a dozen years in operation.

It is located in the former Gorman’s Rancho Market, which closed in 1999.

Fantini and Winklepleck know that getting to know the community will be key to the bowling alley regaining popularity and success.

“We have to be part of the community to be successful,” Fantini said. “We are going to work with the charities, the schools, whatever it takes.”

Wink’s offers a four-lane private room for parties, with a party already booked after the April 1 opening.

Food may be available for that opening as well if inspections go well.

Liquor and gaming licenses will follow.

“We’re really excited to be a part of this community,” Fantini said. “I think we can really do well here. We’re looking forward to getting going.”

A grand opening will follow after every aspect of the business is complete.

Wink’s Silver Strike is located at 1281 Kimmerling Road, in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
