Burns takes second in college contest

Alicia Burns, daughter of Greg and Jeanie Burns of Gardnerville, placed second in the Westmont College Expressions 2001 speaking event. She delivered from memory the speech of one of American’s greatest evangelists, Jonathan Edwards. The speech, entitled “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” was originally delivered as a sermon on July 8, 1741, in Enfield, Conn.

Burns is a graduate of Douglas High School and is currently a first-year students at Westmont College, where she is pursuing a major in communication studies.

Westmont is a nationally-ranked, non-denominational Christian liberal arts college in Santa Barbara, Calif.
