Boy Scouts will pick up food on Saturday

Staff reports

The community is reminded that the Carson Valley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be around on Saturday, Nov. 21, to collect the bags that were left on doorsteps last weekend. The Scouts request that canned food and non-perishable items be put in the bags, which should be placed at front doors before 9 a.m. If you misplaced the bag, any bag will do.

Among the units of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts participating in this food drive are 33, 140, 240, 340, 409, 411 and 495 and their unit leaders, according to Food Drive Chairman Jerry Smith. All food items will be donated to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

The Food Closet, which began in 1988, is a non-profit organization manned solely by volunteers. It provides emergency food and non-perishable staples to families in Douglas County who qualify.

All donations are tax-deductible, and all monetary donations are used to purchase food for this program.

For information, call 782-3711 any Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
