Barragan family will benfit from sale
Friends of the Barragan family will hold a garage sale to benefit the family on July 11. Able Barragan was warming up his car when it jump shifted into reverse and started rolling towards his neighbor’s house. Barragan, who had left the car, reached in and tried to turn the wheel. The door slipped shut and Barragan was dragged by the car over rocks and pavement, said family friend Mary Whalen.
Barragan suffered spleen damage and a punctured lung.
Whalen said she was “amazed” that Barragan survived. “They all thought that this man wasn’t going to live,” she said.
Barragan’s children, Sasha, Alanzo and Samuel, and his wife Ana have “lived on little or nothing,” said Whalen.
“The kids miraculously are doing very well,” she said.
The proceeds will go to pay for hospital bills, mortgage payments and food for the family.
Articles for the garage sale will be accepted July 10 at the Jacks Valley Road Fire Station from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The sale will be held at the fire station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“If there’s anybody that could help us Saturday that would be appreciated,” said Whalen who organized the event along with Adriana McEntire.
For information on volunteering or donating items for the sale, contact Whalen at 883-3794 of McEntire at 267-2924.
An account has been established at Bank of America for cash donations to the family. Donations can be made to account number 382021095.
