Baptist Church to offer disaster food preparation training

Staff reports

The Disaster Relief Department of the Nevada Baptist Convention and the Preparation and Training Department of American Red Cross will hold a training class open to the public Friday and Saturday at the Exciting First Baptist Church of Minden-Gardnerville.

The class will concern “Mass Care Feeding” and will feature Beverly Depew, the Valley Red Cross coordinator, and Tom Bacon of the Nevada Baptist Convention.

“This is the time of year to be trained in case something like last year’s flood hits again,” said Exciting first Baptist Church administrative assistant Christine Stephenson said.

The class is free and nursery will be provided.

The training will begin Friday night, 6:30-9:30, and continue Saturday at 9 a.m.

At noon Saturday, a cooking and preparation of a full mass meal will be conducted by the Baptist Disaster Relief Department, Stephenson said. Those in the class will be able to sample the food.

The training and cooking will be held at the Exciting First Baptist Church, located across from Douglas High School at the intersection of highways 88 and 395 in Minden.
