Baptist church hires an assistant pastor, holds praise service at CVIC Hall
The Exciting First Baptist Church in Minden offers two inspiring services every Sunday, a 9:15 a.m. traditional program led by Carl Wilson Sr. at the church and the second, a contemporary service at the CVIC Hall in Minden.
The service at the CVIC Hall meets at 10:30 a.m. and features a full praise team and band including drums, bass and keyboards led by Tim Hartman.
“When people come to this church,” Pastor Rene Houle said, “they sense the excitement of growth as well as the love of God.”
The CVIC Hall is located at the corner of Fifth and Esmeralda in Minden. The church is located at the junction of Highways 88 and 395.
“We care about people, and we want them to experience the love of God,” said Pastor Houle, who came to the church 18 months ago and sparked the vision of excitement now seen at the church.
On Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., adults meet at Ce Bella Blends for an hour of discussion about the Sunday morning message.
With such an informal atmosphere, people are more comfortable in asking questions, and they find the casual surroundings non-threatening, according to the pastor. While the adults are in the coffee house, the children and youths meet across the street at the church for their own programs beginning at 7 p.m.
Recently, the church brought in a new staff member from Kansas City, Mo., to assist Pastor Houle. Pastor Mark Richardson led a church for two years before coming to Exciting First Baptist. He is working with the youth ministry and has begun a new group ministry where people meet in the homes of members to discuss life and grow spiritually.
“We call the small groups ‘lighthouses’ because people can come for encouragement and prayer and find hope in a sometimes dark world,” Paster Richardson said.
The church will begin to build a new facility with a gymnasium later this summer with the hope of being in the new building within a year. The new church will be at the corner of Waterloo Lane and Centerville Road in Gardnerville.
