Artist to offer workshops in watercolor at WNCC
A series of four watercolor workshops is being offered at Western Nevada Community College, Douglas this fall.
Each workshop will meet two Saturdays in a row, with one workshop each month. The first workshop is Fundamentals of Watercolor set for Sept. 9 and 16. This workshop will help beginners and intermediate painters learn the basics of watercolor.
Flat wash, graded wash and wet-on-wet are just a few of the fundamental techniques that will be demonstrated by artist-instructor Chris Olesen. Students will also learn about paper, brushes and paint on the first Saturday.
During the second Saturday, a small painting will be completed. The student may choose a subject of their own or follow a step-by-step demonstration by the instructor.
The class will be held at the WNCC Douglas campus from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Each class will consist of eight hours, divided into consecutive Saturdays.
These are non-credit classes, and students should sign up by Monday, Sept. 4, to reserve a space for the first workshop. Each two-day workshop is $45, and a supply list is available at signup.
Olesen has painted in watercolor for 21 years and has paintings in private and corporate collections.
Watercolor paintings by Olesen can be seen at the WNCC Douglas campus or at TnT Graphics and Art Gallery, 1532 Highway 395, Suite 1, Stratton Center, Gardnerville.
Subsequent workshops will include Special Effects in Watercolor, Oct. 7 and 10; Painting Nature Subjects in Watercolor, Nov. 4 and 11; and Painting From Photographs, Dec. 2 and 9.
