Art students send work to junior duck stamp contest
Students in Gizelle Hughes’ art class for ages 8 to 12 recently submitted their artwork in the Nevada Junior Duck Stamp competition.
Hughes said the children’s work will be judged in April, and one winner from each state will be sent to national competition.
This is the first year that Hughes, who has a degree in art and has previously taught art to children, has held classes in her Gardnerville home. It is also the first time she has submitted work by her students in the contest.
Hughes said she watches art publications and is always looking for more competitions for younger art students to enter.
“I feel kids need to be exposed to art more and exposed to the competitions that are out there,” Hughes said.
She will begin another class in May. She can be reached at 265-3111.
