Staff reports

The Carson Valley Art Association is presenting the annual members’ show at Western Nevada Community College, Douglas, off Buckeye Road in Minden.

Members’ art will be on display to the public during the month of March and be available for viewing during open hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are 49 works of art represented by 22 associated artists. At this show, which is referred to by members as the “in-house show,” the Douglas County Public Library in Minden chooses one painting to go into their permanent collection in the library’s Nevada Room. This painting, purchased by CVAA, is given to the library as a token of appreciation for the use of their meeting room.

The Carson Valley Historical Society also chooses a painting to purchase at this time. This painting is used as part of the historical society’s fund-raiser auction in August. The county government is also invited to purchase a painting, and that painting will be hung in an appropriate public building.

The winning artists whose work is chosen for these three prestigious purchases is announced at the group’s awards banquet. The presentation of the check and the artists and work chosen is kept a secret until the awards banquet.
