Antelope takes third in Mathcounts

Staff reports

The Mono County Office of Education, under the direction of Richard McAteer, Mono County Superintendent of Schools, held its first annual county-wide Mathcounts competition on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Bridgeport Elementary School. The competition is for 7th and 8th grade student teams who are registered to compete in regional competitions.

The Antelope Valley team from Coleville, Calif., coached by Sharon Allen, took third place. Team members and alternates were Jessica Curti, Gilbert Frye, Ericka Byrne, Amethyst Isbell, Nick Coffron, Jamie Anderson, Katie Long and Rhiannon Hamblin.

All students received certificates of recognition and medals as “Mathletes” for being the top math representatives from their schools.

As with all student events, volunteers play a very important role in the event’s success. McAteer said he especially recognizes those individuals who gave so generously of their time and expertise to assist in this worthwhile program.
