After an illness of about 10 days, Ernest Scossa, one of the best known men of this section and a prominent resident of Alpine County, died at this place Sunday morning.

The widely heralded beer bill that has had its ups and downs in Congress for the past several months, was finally passed Tuesday and yesterday President Roosevelt signed the measure, making it a law. Breweries all over the country have swung into action and on April 7 the people of this country can lawfully purchase beer with an alcoholic content of 3.2 per cent.

Both Douglas County Senator Henry Berrum and Assemblyman Lawrence E. Jacobsen voiced opposition this week to the State Senate bill which would ratify a California-Nevada bi-state park compact drawn by park officials and others from both states.

Many pitchers could have won with the performance Douglas High School’s Mike McCreary gave Thursday afternoon in Minden. The senior right hander threw seven-inning distance against South Tahoe; he allowed six hits, two earned runs, struck out 12 and walked just two along the way.
