Art association awards scholarships
Carson Valley Art Association awarded three scholarships for 2013 to high school seniors and a continuing education student.
The Elizabeth Johnson Memorial $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Kelsey Endter, from Minden. Kelsey was widely active in high school and found time to work at Raleys. She has narrowed her career path to photography and film in television. Kelsey has applied to Loyola Marymount, in Los Angeles, Suffolk University, in Boston and University of Southern California, in Los Angeles. The CVAA $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Colton Witt from Gardnerville. Colton grew up on a small ranch in the Johnson Lane area; before moving to Gardnerville. He founded the Douglas High Photo Club, and discovered his field of photography in many school activities. Colton was the photographer for a number of trips with the Drama Club to Ashland Ore. Colton has applied to School of Visual Arts, in New York, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. He has yet to decide his best opportunity.
A $500 continuation scholarship was awarded to Raul Gonsalez. Raul is a continuing student at Western Nevada College, Carson City. When his athletic career was curtailed by a foot problem, he developed a path in calligraphy; moving into a stylized graffiti form of lettering.
