Alpine families may attend alcohol- and tobacco-free New Year’s party

Staff reports

The Alpine New Year’s Eve Party for the Whole Family is being called a “healthy choice for families” who want to celebrate the coming of a new century together.

The free event is open to the public, according to Edie Veatch of Alpine Kids in Alpine County, Calif., and will feature pizza, soda, snacks, desserts, games, music, and dancing plus dance and yo-yo contests.

Prizes and other giveaways are planned. Guests may take a snack or dessert to add to the buffet table.

The party will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 until 12:30 a.m. Jan. 1, 2000, at Turtle Rock Park, between Woodfords and Markleeville on State Route 89.

“We will be toasting in the new millennium with sparkling cider,” Veatch said. The party is alcohol- and tobacco-free, and is supported in part by the Tobacco Education program (Prop. 99).

Also sponsoring the event are the Alpine Children’s Center Family Resource, Alpine Children’s Center Home Visitor and Alpine Kids programs.
