Alpine County Arts Commission offers mural contest

Staff reports

The Alpine County Arts Commission invites artists to participate in an open competition to design an interior mural for the new Social Services Department building in Woodfords, Calif. Funding will be provided by the Alpine County Local Childcare Planning Council, with project funding available up to $2,500 (including supplies). The theme is “Bring Mountain Betty Indoors.”

If the mural involves figures, it must be sensitive to the ethnicity of the county population as well as to the children and families. The mural is for the children’s interview room which is 12-1/2 feet by 8.5 feet. The wall’s dimensions are 12-1/2 feet long by 9 feet high. The mural could extend to adjoining walls if the artist wants it to.

Send current resume, six slides or photographs of recent work labeled with name, title of work and indicate top of slide. On an explanatory slide sheet, list medium, dimensions, location of work (if a mural) and date.

Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of materials.

Deadline is March 12. Selection committee will make decision by April 5 and the winner will be notified by April 9. Slides will be returned at that time.

The mural must be completed by June 1.
