AARP to hear about senior health

Staff reports

The Carson Valley Chapter of AARP #3683 will meet Thursday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.

The guest speaker will be Darlene Landis, D.C. Dr. Landis will be the first of several speakers who will speak about senior wellness.

The chapter nominating committee will be seeking volunteers to serve as officers and board members for the year 2001.

“If you think you might be interested in joining a group of dedicated people, attend the September meeting,” said Faye Pekar, AARP spokesperson.

The chapter provides information, services and activities to help enhance the quality of life for seniors. The chapter acts as an advocate for seniors; they educate and inform them about legislation and advocacy, health care and wellness, economic security and life planning, consumer information and protection, Pekar said.

The chapter provides service programs such as Tax Aide, 55 Alive, Connections for Independent Living and Widowed Person Service.

Members of the National AARP and the public are invited to attend chapter meetings. For information, contact Pekar at 265-5235.
