89th birthday celebrated
Friends and neighbors joined the family in a surprise birthday party for Grace Middelman on her 89th birthday, Dec. 18. The guests gathered at her daughter and son in law’s home at Blue Sage Storage, where she lives.
Middelman was born in Coleville, Calif., in 1908, and since has enjoyed being a part of the history of the area.
In October 1926, Grace Powell married Fritz Middelman and they raised their family on the ranch in Coleville. Later, they moved to Minden and Fritz operated the Carson Valley Mercantile Shop. But they couldn’t stay away from the ranch, so they moved back to Coleville.
After Fritz passed away in 1966, Middelman retired and moved back to Gardnerville where she enjoyed her church and traveled with friends. She has one daughter, three granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great granddaughters.
The friends and neighbors who helped her celebrate her birthday were Marie Cordes, Dick and Jolly Vaughan, Cheryl, Rick and Ricky Brooks, Mike Vaughan, Bill and Betty O’Bannion and grandsons, and Martin Azparren.
Among the family were granddaughter Kolleen Barth; grandsons Ken and Anthony Barth and friend Teresa Fox from Oroville, Calif.; granddaughter Karen Vandervort from Olalla, Wash.; cousins Ella Linscott, Lynn and Edna Tracy, Laura Tracy; and niece Laura and Jack Dunn and friend Libby.
Darlene and Ken Brown said they would like to thank these people and others who gave their mother so much joy on her birthday.
