8-year-old holds Olympic Games theme birthday party
Rachael Lambin spent her 8th birthday by learning about geography and history.
She called the event the “Olympics Arts and Crafts birthday party,” celebrating the 1998 Olympic games not in Nagano, Japan, but in Gardnerville, and not in sports but in arts and crafts.
Rachael and her mother Debbie planned the unusual birthday party theme because of their interest in this year’s Olympics. They were interested in the games, the interviews with the athletes on television and the coverage of Japan’s arts and artists.
When guests arrived at the party, they were given a “passport” and a brief overview of how a passport is used, an Olympic metal nametag, crayons and a bag to carry their treasures.
The party guests were able to “visit” several countries, including United States, Sweden, France, Japan, China, Mexico, Czech Republic, Australia and Egypt.
Once admitted to the country, they would color the country’s flag, find the capital, learn facts about the country, then write a small paragraph about what they did while visiting.
They made a craft that represented the kinds of crafts found in each country.
