by Jessie Johnston

On Jan. 11, The 4-H Bunny Hoppers of Douglas County met for the group’s monthly meeting at the extension office.

Discussed at this month’s meeting were upcoming events, including reporter’s workshop, livestock event awards presentation, candy bar sale, June showmanship event and the Carson Valley Day’s Parade.

Members attending did their posters and demonstrations of their choice about their rabbit project. Some demonstrations included cleaning and taking care of your rabbit, rabbit showmanship, treats for your rabbit, how to breed your rabbit, rabbit compost and the different breeds of rabbit and fur.

Officers for our club were elected and they are Cristina Siqueiros, president; Katie Schuler, vice president; Sarah Owens, secretary; Devy and Jake deVries, treasurers; Heather Dreyer, sergeant at arms; and Jessie Johnston, reporter. Teen leader is Vicky Gay.

Leader Stacy deVries introduced the newest member, Thalia McCann to the Rabbit Club. Thalia is new to Douglas County 4-H. She has brought to our group a brand new thing – Cavies. We will now be learning about rabbits and guinea pigs and how to do showmanship with both.

The next meeting will be on Feb. 15. The group will hear from a representative from Purina, talking about different rabbit feeds and nutrition. Members will also be learning the proper way to clip rabbits’ nails.
