Amodei tried to sell off public land

Editor:

Many Nevadans know that Mark Amodei tried to sell off thousands of acres of public Nevada land to help fund the tax cuts for the wealthiest folks (most of whom don’t live in Nevada). What you may not know is that this proposal was stripped from the budget reconciliation after a member of the GOP refused to vote in favor of the entire thing if that public land sale was included. They needed every last GOP vote for it to go through, so they had to remove that Nevada land sale.  The hero that saved our Nevada public lands? Montana congressman Ryan Zinke. Isn’t it interesting that we can’t rely on our elected House Representative to preserve our lands?

Another fascinating thing is that I emailed and called Mark Amodei several times to discuss this issue, and I never got a response.  Yet when I called and emailed Zinke’s office to thank him for standing up for Nevada when none of the proposed land sale was even in his state, I got a response within the hour with more information about how Zinke prioritizes conservation across the west. Wow, it must be so nice to have an engaged and responsive Representative in the House.

Anyway, I hope Nevadans remember how quick Mark Amodei was to sell us out when it comes time to vote.

Two years after the atmospheric river, FEMA reimbursements for the first projects have been disbursed. I would like to express gratitude to Mike Tanner TRE GID Board Trustee for quickly acting and filling out the Public Assistance Request application at the eleventh hour. Without that application filed before the deadline Topaz Ranch Estates would not have a reimbursement.

Douglas County’s staff has also been doing a phenomenal job for the people of Douglas County securing reimbursement from FEMA for the people. I am most appreciative for their efforts.

Despite a high-ranking elected official in TRE and naysaying residents, the county staff and TRE volunteers put their heads down and got the job done.

Negative people do not help our communities thrive and our leaders should set the example in the future to encourage volunteerism and set an example as positive role models.

Thank again Mike Tanner and his volunteers and Douglas County staff for a job well done. Keep up the good fight.
