After a temporary hiatus, the Douglas County Public Library has reformed their Foundation Board, and Library Director Tim DeGhelder said they are seeking interested community members who want to have an active role in the focus and direction of the library.
The Foundation Board is responsible for determining long-term, visionary projects and goals for the DCPL. Members take part in community outreach projects, develop fundraising strategies that support other library fundraising efforts, and participate in various board committees. Meetings are held monthly at the Minden library, 1625 Library Lane, and last about 2 hours.
DeGhelder said the first Foundation Board project in the works is a reading deck at the Zephyr Cove library branch. The outdoor deck space would be utilized for programs and musical performances and offer patrons a natural backdrop in which to read a book, relax, or perhaps enjoy an alfresco lunch.
The board is seeking people âwilling to work as part of a fun team that loves the value of a strong community with libraries as a community value,â said DeGhelder. âGiving back to the community by volunteering and making a difference makes our community stronger,â he added.
Anyone interested in serving on the DCPL Foundation Board can contact DeGhelder via email at timothy.deghelder@douglas.lib.nv.us or by phone at 775-782-9841.
Tintabulations on tap for Library
The Minden Library hosts a special performance by Tintabulations Handbells Ensemble 2 p.m. June 7.
This yearâs program, titled âBeinâ Green,â is âinspired by the beloved song performed by Kermit the Frog and explores themes of self-acceptance, growth and the beauty of embracing oneâs uniqueness.â The performance features thoughtful narrations of Kermitâs journey and âhumorous anecdotes about [the ensembleâs] own âgreenâ moments, reflections on environmental stewardship, and heartfelt tales of resilience and self-discoveryâ that connect to each musical piece.
Though the event is free of charge, donations are âcheerfully acceptedâ and will support the group in continuing their mission âto further the art handbell ringing and to educate others on the art form.â
Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble features eight musicians led by Artistic Director Barb Walsh.
