Friday’s grand opening of Wienerschnitzel drew a big crowd.
Opened by Reno owner Tony Coltrin, Friday marked the return of the hotdog chain to Western Nevada after more than a decade and a first for Minden. According to wienerschnitzel
.com, there are nine other outlets in the state, with only one in Sparks.
“I was born and live in Reno, and I’ve been fortunate to have had a longtime relationship with Wienerschnitzel, so when this property became available, we felt it was a fantastic fit for both the location and community,” Coltrin said. “We hope that both locals, and those in the Reno area craving the best American food around will make the drive to see us.”
The restaurant known for its hot dogs took over the former Sonic in Minden, which closed near the end of 2022 after around six years.
The restaurant also houses a Tastee Freez, offering chocolate-dipped cones to sundaes and shakes in addition to its selection of hot dogs.
The Douglas County seat has seen a sudden influx of restaurants after the Minden McDonalds moved across Highway 395 and was joined by Shaq’s Big Chicken and Firehouse Subs.
A Chipotle is under construction right across the highway near the Minden Subway. Workers have completed the exterior and are working on the inside.
Gardnerville saw the reopening of the restaurant at Carson Valley Golf Course, now called The Club House. Operated by Kimberly Turner and Maura Penna, the restaurant reopened on April 17.
“We will be auctioning off some of the old memorabilia of The Carson Valley Country Club,” Penna said. “The proceeds will be going to the Douglas County School District.”
The auction is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. June 7.
Pending in Gardnerville is the arrival of TOGO’s, a national sandwich chain, which was first confirmed in November. The operators have a banner out.
A new operator for what was the Genoa Country Store has been announced. Foothill Market will be opening in the summer of 2025, according to its web site.
