Genoa, Nev. — The balloons participating in Hot Air for Hope are launching in Lampe Park this morning and R-C Staff Writer Sarah Drinkwine is on the scene. The event is scheduled to continue through the weekend.
Regional Transportation Commissioners are scheduled to meet 10:30 a.m. today to discuss awarding a $3.43 million bid for the segment of Muller Lane Parkway north of Toler Lane. They delayed the item last week. Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss the five-year transportation plan.
The Douglas High School Ag Sale wraps up this weekend. Last year they closed early, so I’ll check on them this afternoon and update if I learn something.
Both the Mottsville and Garden cemetery folks are cleaning up on Saturday morning in preparation for Memorial Day on May 26.

The Minden Branch of the Douglas County Public Library is conducting its used book sale starting 2 p.m. today and continuing 10 a.m. Saturday. Half-price starts 3 p.m. Saturday.

On Wednesday I asked Cooperative Extension’s Horticulture Outreach Coordinator Jessica Gardner whether she thought the weather would be a factor in Saturday’s Native Plant Sale at the River Fork Ranch. She pointed to the Carson Range and said she was confident the Sierra rain shadow would prevail. The sale is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Drilling down in the forecast, it looks like the wind won’t pick up until around 11 a.m. Saturday. Gardner is right about the rain, which is predicted to bring barely a trace to Minden.
Today, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 74 degrees. A light breeze will pick up out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon.
