A Sparks woman who pistol-whipped another while attempting to get her dog back was sent to jail Tuesday as a condition of probation.

Christy Marie Field, 39, was arrested Oct. 4, 2024, for battery with a deadly weapon.

Field and her stepson and co-defendant Matthew Americus Field, entered the home of a Gardnerville Rancho’s couple’s home brandishing a gun in attempt to retrieve Tattles, an emotional support pit bull.

According to court documents, when Field’s husband moved out of a home, he left the dog behind and his ex-roommate gave the dog to the couple.

Later, Field conspired with Matthew through text asking if he wanted to go on a “secret mission,” which was to take the dog back, said Prosecutor Ric Casper.

After arriving at the Ranchos home, Matthew went around to the back of the house, while a friend of Matthew’s went to the front door to distract the residence of the home, so Matthew could check to see if the dog was there, all while Field remained in the vehicle.

In the backyard, when the man of the house went outside, Matthew popped up from behind a grill and pointed a BB gun at the man demanding for the dog. The man complied and said he could take the dog. When they went back to the front of the house, the woman came home, saw what was happening and tackled Matthew. At this point Field got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the woman telling her to get off of Matthew, which she refused. Field then struck the woman in the head at least two times.

“It may be true that Ms. Field did not start this whole operation with the intent to pistol whip someone, but when there is an altercation things often go bad,” said Casper. “What started as ‘fun and games, let’s go on this secret mission to get our dog back,’ wasn’t ‘fun and games’ for the victims. They had a young man and a woman point a gun at them trying to steal a dog they thought they had rescued. That’s all this couple knew about the situation.”

Christy must also serve six months in jail as a condition of probation. She was ordered to have no contact with the victims, violate no laws, and must not possess a firearm or weapons. She was given credit for two days.

Mathew was sentenced on Tuesday after admitting a charge of robbery for his part in the incident.

He was sentenced to 28-72 months in prison which was suspended. As a condition of probation, Matthew was ordered to complete 160 hours of community service, have no contact with the victims, violate no laws, and must not possess a firearm or weapons including a BB gun. He was given credit for 124 days.
