Genoa, Nev. — A conservation fund purchased the historic Kinsey House in Genoa and is seeking a special use permit to merge the property with Mormon Station State Historic Park. The Conservation Fund purchased the 170-year-old brick home and property at the end of the year. The town board is scheduled to discuss the permit 4:30 p.m. at the Genoa Town Hall.

All three towns are finalizing their budgets for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Gardnerville Town Manager Erik Nilssen said on Tuesday that sales tax figures from the state are slightly behind while property taxes are ahead. I figure that’s going to be fairly similar across the board.

Minden Town Board members are also discussing their evaluation of Manager JD Frisby at their 5:30 p.m. meeting at the CVIC Hall.

Gardnerville Town Board members approved agreements with the federal government regarding the Nishikida laundry building and the reconstruction of Industrial Way. From what I heard, neither project is particularly imminent.

Nevada Poet Laureate Shaun Griffin will be chatting with folks at the Carson Valley Arts Council 1-2 p.m. today at 1572 Highway 395 in Minden. He’s conducting a workshop with Douglas High creative writing students this morning.

The M-word target date for getting the Heritage Park Gardens renovation sounds way closer to Memorial Day than Mothers Day. Main Street Director Jen Tune said work is underway but was slowed by some of the recent sketchy weekends.

Today is the first Wind Down Wednesday in Heritage Park 4-8 p.m. Food trucks, the mobile bar and live music are on the menu.

Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature around 76 degrees, with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon. It’s going to warm up some over the next few days, topping out at 85 degrees on Friday.
