A leprechaun, eager to get out of the rain and cold on Monday morning, ran straight through Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Daycare center and left behind a mess of gold coins, painted gold rocks, shamrocks, and glitter for students to collect in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

“After you all went into your classrooms this morning, a leprechaun came through and made this huge mess and I need your help to pick it all up,” said Trinity Lutheran Director Samantha Tierney to the students.

Besides the gold hunt, students read books about the holiday, learned about rainbows, and made leprechaun traps.

“We incorporate spring time in with the holiday and talk a little bit about the Irish holiday, but don’t go to deep into that, mostly the kids know that leprechauns play tricks on them,” said Tierney.

Tierney said she decorated the facility as if a leprechaun had made his way through, including green footprints that led to a secret door.

Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Daycare center incorporates many holidays into their curriculum through ways that the students will understand while making it fun and interactive.

Coming up next for the center is the annual Easter Egg hunt where lessons about the holiday are taught through the seasonal change of Spring.

“It represents the cycle of life and the resurrection of new life, much like the resurrection of Jesus and reason for Easter,” said Tierney.

Tierney said she and the teachers at Trinity Lutheran enjoy adding themes to their curriculum.

“It makes it fun and gives the kids something to look forward to,” she said.
