Genoa, Nev. — Snow is falling on Kingsbury in the Sierra and Simee Dimeh summit in the Pine Nuts this morning, with road controls in effect over Kingsbury Grade, Spooner Summit and around all of Lake Tahoe. NVroads.com shows Highway 88 is closed on the other side of Kirkwood.

A winter storm warning remains in effect at Lake Tahoe through 11 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. The Sierra Avalanche Center has issued an avalanche watch for the back country around the Lake.

The windiest spot in Carson Valley was along Highway 88 between Mottsville and Centerville that hit 68 mph at 1 a.m. today. Gusts of between 40 and 60 mph were recorded at the spot through the night.

Douglas County Sheriff's Search & Rescue toned out for an out-of-bounds skier at Heavenly around lunchtime Saturday. Ski Patrol found him and escorted him back onto the property.

My bingo card for next Monday’s Drought & Climate Outlook Webinar includes at least one Miracle March reference. March 1991 raised the snowpack from 20-25 percent of median to 50-60 percent in the middle of a massive drought. As of this morning, both Ebbetts and Carson pass snow telemetry are running 80-88 percent.

It's still pretty warm out this morning with rain falling in Carson Valley as of 7 a.m. The temperature is dropping as the cold front arrives with the possibility of snow after 8 a.m. The wind will shift west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
