The John C. Fremont Chapter received a grant for a school literacy program funded by The Daughters of the America Revolution “Stars and Stripes! - American 250 Celebration.”

The first installment of books was provided to Gardnerville Elementary School on March 3.

“As we prepare for our Nation’s 250th birthday, it’s time to celebrate ‘Stars & Stripes Forever,” said Chapter Regent Pam Ludwig. “With the aid of these grants, the Daughters of the American Revolution hope to enlighten the community on the founding of our Nation and the Patriots that achieved American Independence, as well as encouraging the study of family history.”

Ludwig said education is one of the founding principles of the Daughter of the American Revolutions.

“There are so many ways we can help our local schools and community through grants,” she said.

The chapter meets 10 a.m. the third Saturday at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
