There are 31 active probate cases being managed by Community Services in the wake of Public Administrator Steve Walsh’s resignation.

Administrator attorney Justin Clouser said 18 cases will be refiled with district court over the next two weeks.

On Tuesday, District Judge Tod Young appointed interim Public Administrator Brook Adie and Douglas County contractor Ginger Simpson co-administrators along with co-administrator Yves Tkaczyk in the case of Alice Marie Dibon.

Adie said her department is reviewing past files from Walsh’s tenure to identify any estates that still require services.

“Beyond the active cases, Douglas County has contracted Compassionate Solutions to provide expertise and resources. Community Services staff are leveraging resources to address the vacancy, implementing interim solutions to act quickly,” Adie said. “This has enabled us to work closely with family members to address urgent needs, including securing special administration appointments and taking immediate steps to protect assets.”

Young set a March 25 review date for the Dibon estate, which was originally filed in 2019.

Not all of the delay in that case can be attributed to the public administrator’s office. The case was still being litigated until last summer when Dibon’s 86-year-old mother was determined to be her sole heir.

Dibon was murdered in April 2019. Authorities suspect her significant other and immediate heir in her death.

He was killed after stepping in front of a truck a few weeks after her death.

Had he been convicted of her death, he would have been in eligible to inherit.
