Carson Valley Kiwanis Aktion Club took action Monday spreading awareness in a walk-run from Heritage to Minden parks.

Aktion club members walked or ran with members of the Douglas County Sheriff Office to celebrate and support kids and adults with disabilities.

“It was just something fun to get them involved in to spread awareness about Aktion club and support kids and adults with disabilities in general,” said Aktion Club Advisor Gary Dove.

Dove said the Special Olympics were held in the past to spread awareness, but over the years many contributing factors have prevented it from happening. He said the Fun Walk was a way to help bring back the support.

“It was cool to be out here with them and to show them support,” said Sheriff’s Sgt. John Lentz. “They thought it was neat to run or walk with us and to have the police cars and sirens on while parading down the street.”

The Aktion Club Fun-Walk partnered with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and was sponsored by the towns of Gardnerville and Minden.

The Kiwanis Aktion Club of Carson Valley is a service club for adults with disabilities that provides opportunities for leadership development and community service. The club is actively involved in service projects and fundraising, and they recently received a distinguished club award.
